PRIVATE OR GROUP LESSONS
PRINCIPLES OF ASANA PRACTICE
In Sanskrit Asana translates as "posture." In yoga practice we concentrate on the body, the breath, and the mind. The purpose of yoga is to unify the actions of the body, breath, and mind.
THE BREATH
Linking the breath with each posture is one of the most important aspect of yoga. You will learn the Ujjayi breath and Pranayama breathing exercises. The breath works in conjunction with the yoga asanas to detoxify the body. Through breathing we create heat or Agni, which removes impurities from the body.
YOGA STYLES
Beginners Hatha Yoga
You will learn the basic yoga postures and breath work, which will improve the body structure and lubricate the joints. Through the practice the ligaments and muscles are lengthened and strengthened, and the interhnal organs are toned. The health of the body is greatly improved. You will learn to set your yoga goals and achieve them.
Intermediate Yoga
Intermediate yoga is the next level after beginners yoga. More intermediate poses are introduced. The student will learn to use the breath and focus the mind to go deeper into the poses. You will also learn to sequence the poses for your own personal practice.
Advance Yoga
This yoga progresses you to learn more advanced poses, which will require more balance and deeper concentration. Retention and suspension of the breath will be learned.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Ashtanga yoga is unique in its use of vinyasas (breath-synchronized movements), which link the yoga postures together to form dynamic sequences. This is where "power yoga" came from. This form of yoga uses the breath, gazes, and bandhas. The rhythm and meditative aspects of Ashtanga Yoga is through the quantity and length of inhalation and exhalations that is synchronized into and out of each asana. This system is know for its graceful, flowing sequences of transitions and postures "woven on the thread of the breath."
Yoga For Addictions
In order to recover from addictions there needs to be a complete lifestyle change. Most people have not learned healthy skills for dealing with stress. When we stress we go to our addictions. Through yoga you can begin the healing process.
Pranayama Breath Exercises
The quality of our breath influences our state of mind and vice versa. All pranayama practices have as their goal the quieting and calming of the mind. The ancient Yogis developed the science of Pranayama to help us overcome the imbalances in our bodies and our minds. "By the practice of Pranayama, the covering which veils the inner luminosity is removed."- Patanjali
